UTVS Tour

Good afternoon!

For my final video project in my Multi Media Mass Communication course, I decided to film a tour of the UTVS studio in Stewart Hall on campus! I had a blast making this video! The UTVS studio is such a fantastic part of Saint Cloud State University, giving countless enthusiastic mass communication students the opportunity to gain the real world experience needed to succeed in this field.  I started off with an explanation of how the control room is extremely necessary and important in a newscast. I stated how the control room is the backbone of the broadcast, and any small mistake could lead to chaos in a very short period of time. I then proceeded to briefly talk about the sound booth, which is where the microphones are equalized. Next was the news room, where I talked about what is necessary in order to comply with ethical journalism and fair broadcasting. I then talked about the duties of the broadcast meteorologist and sports anchor. This particular video was very fun to create because I got to load the viewers with information about a subject that I hold an extreme amount of passion for. Please enjoy the video, and have a fantastic day! 🙂

Introduction Video

For the introduction video project in my Intro to Multimedia class, I recorded a video giving an overview of my current career at Saint Cloud State University, as well as my future career aspirations. I first gave a little introduction about myself, stating that I’m originally from Two Harbors, MN. I also included a couple of clips from the UTVS (University Television) archive that featured myself delivering a forecast. I talked about my current involvement in the meteorology department as well as the mass communication department. I talk briefly about my time as a broadcast meteorologist at UTVS news. I talked about my developed skills working with Adobe Premier, WordPress, as well as Photoshop. We filmed in the main lobby of my current apartment complex. Shelby Holbeck filmed the video  My younger brother, Colton McCullough, provided the background music. This project further developed my skills with using Adobe Premier, as well as created an introduction video that I can use when applying for jobs and internships in the future. Overall, creating this video was a fantastic experience which exercised numerous skills. I have provided a link to the video, and I also included the video in this post. Thank you for watching, and enjoy!

Personal Music Taste

Both my mom and my dad like all different kinds of music, and they had the biggest influence on me for musical taste. From when I was born till I was about 8 years old, the primary music that we listened to was country music. Around this time, I was introduced to other artists from many different genres such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Who, Waylon Jennings, and so many more! My first two artists that I remember obsessing over were Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra! When I was around the age of 8, my family upgraded our internet from dial-up to a higher speed internet, which allowed me to view endless videos and stories on all sorts of musicians. My 1st ever concert was a fantastic performance by Toby Keith when I was 13 or so! I’ve also seen Bonnie Reit, George Thorogood, Paul McCartney, and my personal favorite, Billy Joel!

In addition to “The Northwood’s Band”, me and my brother, Colton McCullough, have an acoustic duo that plays smaller venues around the northland. We cover mainly classic rock songs, while also covering songs from the 1950’s, classic country, and newer music. We have been performing for about 3 years now, and we have so much fun doing it! We’ve even started to tap into the St. Cloud Music Market, playing at places like ‘Club Almar” and “Spilled Grain Brewery”. We do our best to incorporate, engage, and entertain our audience through using humor, walking through the crowd, and performing songs that many different people can relate to. Although this is a side project to The Northwood’s Band, we can’t help but have a blast playing any kind of music stripped down of drums and bass, especially with my brother!

Good afternoon everyone! If you haven’t guessed it yet, I really like music! I am currently in a band that has been together for four years, and we play local bars and restaurants in Duluth, Two Harbors, and the Iron Range. We call ourselves “The Northwood’s Band”, and we formed in 2014! The band consisted of 3 members (myself, my brother, and my high school friend), and we recently added a fourth member for more versatility. We are a cover band, covering songs from almost every genre. We actually just won the award for “Duluth Reader’s Best Band in the Northland”, which we were flattered to receive! We try to keep busy with at least one gig per week, with my busiest week containing 5 gigs! This has really been a ton of fun, and a fantastic experience for myself!
